Birmingham City Council could be forced to pay out up to £600m in equal pay case.

Thousands of female Birmingham City Council staff could receive a share of up to £600m in compensation after winning an equal pay employment tribunal case.

Up to 5,000 female workers, including cleaners, care assistants & cooks, brought the case against the council after they were not paid bonuses that were offered to male refuse collectors, allowing the men to earn more than £50,000 a year.

The tribunal found these bonuses were discriminatory because it was rewarding male workers for doing their jobs properly.  Read more

 

Dispatch Manager

Description:

You will be the manager responsible for the overall standard of vehicles that customers receive, which is a very rewarding role for the manager that has excellent organisational skills, an eye for detail and can work with and meet tight deadlines. You and your team see every vehicle prior to onward delivery as if you were the customer. Your standards are the company’s standards.

This is a full time permanent role based on 40 hours per week covering Monday to Sunday on a rota basis. You will receive 30 days holiday per year including statutory bank holidays, have the option to join the pension scheme available at the time (employee contributions only) and have a Death in Service benefit of twice your annual salary.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

  • To arrange delivery meeting the customer’s requirements
  • To co-ordinate the delivery with the customer and delivery providers in a timely basis
  • To maintain a professional attitude and behaviour towards customers and other members of staff.
  • To fully understand the company’s ethos towards compliance, ensuring familiarity and understanding of all policies and procedures relating to the company handbook and the due diligence manual.
  • To react to customers dissatisfaction immediately and in time with company policy and give all details to the Customer Services Manager

Competencies & Experience Required

You will have City & Guilds, BTEC or NVQ level 2 in vehicle mechanical servicing and repairs or equivalent body shop qualification and the ability to complete a thorough vehicle inspection for damage and operational functionality. You will have the ability to work well under pressure, prioritise workloads and deliver to deadlines. You will have previous experience of managing a team to deliver the highest customer satisfaction levels in the industry with strong attention to detail and a “get it right first time” attitude. You will possess a full clean UK driving licence.
