Birmingham City Council could be forced to pay out up to £600m in equal pay case.

Thousands of female Birmingham City Council staff could receive a share of up to £600m in compensation after winning an equal pay employment tribunal case.

Up to 5,000 female workers, including cleaners, care assistants & cooks, brought the case against the council after they were not paid bonuses that were offered to male refuse collectors, allowing the men to earn more than £50,000 a year.

The tribunal found these bonuses were discriminatory because it was rewarding male workers for doing their jobs properly.  Read more

Primary Job Function:

To quickly and accurately appraise all intended vehicle purchases to the company vehicle preparation standard and enable the company buyers to make sound purchasing decisions by providing real time, accurate vehicle repair estimations in a fast paced auction environment.

Working Hours:

This position is full time and permanent mainly working Monday to Friday with hours that fit your auction schedule and occasional weekend cover will be required.

Salary Holidays and Benefits:

£17,000 - £18,000 plus bonus, car allowance and mobile phone. Annual holiday entitlement is 22 days plus bank holidays (30 in total).

Key Tasks:

  • To provide accurate vehicle repair estimates in line with company refurbishment standards
  • To provide the company buyers with up to date information during the sale
  • To capture vehicle specifications, optional extras, inoperative functionality and identification of damage and pervious repairs
  • Ensure all supporting documentation is accurate and completed in full and on time
  • To assist and advise with the most appropriate repairs that will add value to vehicles
  • Ensure the correct decisions are made on vehicles in a fast paced environment
  • Maintain MOT standards where applicable
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and legal requirements on each vehicle
  • Assist team members from all departments
  • Adopt new approaches and procedures to meet company expectations

It is essential for this role that you have a technical and bodywork background holding the associated qualifications which will ideally be at NVQ level 3 or above in vehicle or body repairs. Previous experience of Bodyshop estimating programmes and computerised estimating systems would be a distinct advantage.

The ideal person will be able to demonstrate that they are thorough, methodical and well organised with at least 6 years relevant industry experience and the ability to work and make decisions under time pressures in an extremely fast paced environment. Experience of auctions and vehicle purchasing would also be an advantage.
