Birmingham City Council could be forced to pay out up to £600m in equal pay case.

Thousands of female Birmingham City Council staff could receive a share of up to £600m in compensation after winning an equal pay employment tribunal case.

Up to 5,000 female workers, including cleaners, care assistants & cooks, brought the case against the council after they were not paid bonuses that were offered to male refuse collectors, allowing the men to earn more than £50,000 a year.

The tribunal found these bonuses were discriminatory because it was rewarding male workers for doing their jobs properly.  Read more

Autoquake.com is a transactional website which allows consumers to make a purchase decision online for used cars, an expensive and complex used product.

As part of the continued expansion programme the position of Senior Buyer will give you an opportunity to work in a dynamic team orientated environment with good opportunities to grow your career. You will enjoy working in an evolving, results driven fast paced environment at there preparation and handover centre near Crossgates in Leeds West Yorkshire.

This position is full time and permanent which may require some late night and weekend working.

Main Objective:

You will be responsible as part of the purchasing team to ensure that the primary stock objectives and quality of vehicles meet the company standards and are available at all times to meet the monthly sales targets.

Key Tasks:

  • The bidding on and purchasing of vehicles from auctions and fleet companies
  • Valuing stock at current market values
  • Organising and purchasing bulk stock orders
  • Appraising vehicles for damage
  • Building trade purchasing relationships
  • Acquisition of trade and ex fleet vehicles from trade outlets
  • Telephone purchasing of stock
  • Disposal of stock

It is essential for this role that you have vehicle purchasing experience, either from a role as a Used Car Buyer, Sales Manager or General Manager. You will have at least 6 years Motor Trade / Automotive experience with the last 3 years gaining experience in used car purchasing from various channels for stock.

You will be able to demonstrate that you understand the Automotive used car market in depth including stock profiling, stock management,, the principle of days stock turn, how to appraise a vehicle effectively and how you remain ahead of the competition on current market values.

The ideal person will understand the benefits of, and adhere to clear objectives, processes and procedures. It would also be a distinct advantage if you could demonstrate existing channels of used car supply.
