Birmingham City Council could be forced to pay out up to £600m in equal pay case.

Thousands of female Birmingham City Council staff could receive a share of up to £600m in compensation after winning an equal pay employment tribunal case.

Up to 5,000 female workers, including cleaners, care assistants & cooks, brought the case against the council after they were not paid bonuses that were offered to male refuse collectors, allowing the men to earn more than £50,000 a year.

The tribunal found these bonuses were discriminatory because it was rewarding male workers for doing their jobs properly.  Read more

Description:

MOTOR TRADE JOB: Our client is a Professional Service Provider serving the Motor Trade since 1975. An exciting opportunity has arisen to join their expanding team as an Accountant based in Manchester, close to the airport.

The role of this job is to build and maintain profitable working relationships with dealers and franchises.

The vacancy is a full time, permanent role.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for up to 5 franchises
  • Plan and prioritise personal activities and customer contact towards achieving agreed business aims, particularly time and productivity
  • Communicate, liaise and negotiate internally and externally using appropriate methods to facilitate the development of profitable business and sustainable relationships
  • Review composite submissions and manage them through a validation process to a set deadline
  • Contact Dealership Accountant regarding queries from submissions
  • Check all output reports before and after review with franchise
  • Arrange and hold review meetings with franchise onsite or at the manufacturers, with the support by a Senior Account Manager
  • Identify poor performing dealers and facilitate action plans to address the issues, with the support by a Senior Account Manager
  • Visit dealers to improve data accuracy and dealership profitability
  • Develop the role in line with business needs
  • Attend training to develop relevant knowledge, techniques and skills
  • Managing internal resources (admin & IT as necessary) in order to ensure reporting requirements are met
  • Promote all additional audit, tax & marketing services to manufacturers and dealers (linked to target related bonus)
  • Produce and maintain franchise account plan for each of the franchises
  • Maintain multi level relationships at the franchise
  • Manage the whole process with each franchise, with the support by a Senior Account Manager
  • Taking ownership of the customer relationship

Essential & Desirable Requirements:

Previous employment as an Multi Site Accountant is essential, as is 2 years in the motor industry.

Knowledge and experience of multiple brands/franchises would be a distinct advantage.

Training for a qualification in a related discipline is desirable.

A fully expensed company car will be provided with this role.
