New Honda Civic's To Be Made In Britain

The new Civic hatchback for Europe and the next generation CR-V will be built in Swindon.

Production will start later this year ahead of the sales launch in early 2012, according to Honda. Swindon production will return to normal levels in early September after parts supply was interrupted by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan in 2011. The next six months will be busy as yhey ramp up to full production following the training and trial builds of the new car.

Honda said the decision also to produce the next generation CR-V at HUM was a further endorsement of the high quality work carried out at the Swindon plant.. The new CR-V will go on sale in Europe from autumn 2012. The new Civic, designed exclusively for Europe and tested extensively on the region’s roads – will be the ninth generation of the hatchback. Honda’s first Civic went on sale in 1972.
