DSE Assessments

Display Screen Equipment (DSE) regulations came into force on 1st January 1993 with some minor changes in 2002. The regulations are aimed at protecting the health of workers by reducing the risks from VDU work.

Our Health and Safety Advisors will carry out workstation assessments with your staff to prevent risks with postural problems, visual problems, fatigue and stress such as:

  • Musculoskeletal injuries
  • Backache
  • Headaches
  • Repetitive strain injuries
  • Eyestrain

It will generally be appropriate to classify someone as a Display Screen User if most or all of the following applies:

  • The individual depends on the use of display screen equipment to do their job
  • The individual normally uses Display Screen Equipment for continuous spells of more than one hour.
  • The individual normally uses Display Screen Equipment for more than one spell per day.
  • The individual uses Display Screen Equipment in the ways described above on a daily basis.

We use self-assessments, observations and where necessary training to assist employees avoid the risks associated with use of Display Screen Equipment (DSE) and to ensure you the employer comply with the Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) regulations 1992 (as amended in 2002) and maintain a healthy workforce. We also compile a full trend analysis to assist in improving workstation conditions for the future. Our fees are based on the number of employees requiring assessments.
